Marisia Burton Missing Latest Update

Nineteen-year-old Marisia Burton has been found alive. The teenager was last seen on December 22 in Orlando, Florida, and was reported missing by her family. Her disappearance was considered unusual, and the public was urged to help ensure her safe return.

On December 30, Grammy-nominated gospel artist James Fortune shared a missing person’s flyer of Marisia Burton on Twitter. The post mentioned that Marisia, who is 19 years old, had been missing since December 22. She is described as 5’6″ tall and weighing 130 pounds. Her cellphone was unreachable, her savings of $4,000 had been depleted, and all of her social media accounts had been deleted, which was out of character for her. Detectives suspected that she may have fallen victim to sex trafficking. According to reports from Orlando news station WESH 2, Marisia was enrolled in the Disney College Program.

Last night, the family of Marisia Burton urgently appealed to social media users for assistance when they discovered that the teen had been seen with an unknown older male. They expressed deep concern and wrote,

“HELP!!!! MY NIECE SHOWED UP TO A POLICE PRECINCT BACK IN HOUSTON TRYING TO TAKE HERSELF OFF THE MISSING PERSONS LIST WITH A WEIRD MAN!!! THE PRECINCT CALLED MY SISTER AND SAID GET HERE ASAP! WE’RE IN ORLANDO! SHE IS BEING TRAFFICKED!!!” The family believed that Marisia was a victim of trafficking and requested immediate intervention to ensure her safety.

The family member made an urgent plea to anyone who could assist to go to 2202 St. Emanuel in Houston, Texas, as Burton’s immediate family was currently away. They implored everyone to prevent the man from taking her, emphasizing the grave concern that if he succeeded in leaving with her, she would be taken to Mexico. The tweet included photos depicting Burton in the backseat of the car and the man she was with. The family’s desperation for immediate intervention was evident in their plea for help.

In a video shared on social media, believed to be from last night, a female law enforcement officer addressed the courageous individuals who had gathered at the precinct. She informed them that human trafficking experts were on their way to the scene to assist. She mentioned that an advocate was speaking with the young woman involved to gain a better understanding of her perspective. Once that was done, the investigators would have access to all the information provided to determine if the situation involved human trafficking or not. At that point, it was still uncertain, and further investigation was needed to ascertain the nature of the case.

Today (Jan. 3), local authorities released an update regarding Marisia Burton’s case. According to the statement, Burton, who was reported missing on Dec. 25 in Orange County, personally spoke to the Houston Police on Jan. 2. She informed them that she is not missing, is safe, and requested to be removed from the missing person’s database. The authorities stated that there is currently no reason to suspect foul play in this case. The department shared this update via Twitter.
