Van Es and his wife, Blake Van Es, have faced numerous challenges throughout their marriage but have remained strong together. After getting married in 1996, they struggled with fertility problems when trying to conceive their first child.

In 1999, Blake became pregnant with twin girls, but unfortunately, the first baby was stillborn, and the second passed away nine days after birth.

In November 2002, a fertility specialist informed Blake that she had little chance of carrying a pregnancy to full term. However, against the odds, she conceived their third child. Their first son, Jake, was born.

For their second child, Kemp, who biologically belongs to the Van Eses, Blake’s sister, Brooks Martinez, carried the pregnancy to full term. It was a miraculous arrangement.

Miraculously, Blake conceived their third child, Dutch Diego. Despite the challenges, Dutch was delivered via Caesarean section, measuring 19 1/2 inches in length and weighing around 7 1/2 pounds.

In 1996, he landed his first job as a morning show host on WKRQ in Cincinnati. Prior to this, he had trained with the LA-based comedic group, The Groundlings. Impressively, Johnjay received the “Best of Cincinnati” award just three months into his radio career.
